I have tried to move on from realistic art to abstract mixed media for over 5 years now, and I admit I'm still frustrated. This book is the best by far I have come across that I believe will move me ahead in my mixed media pursuit in abstract style finally achieving success.
If your eyes are aging or you don't have a strong light source, you will likely be unable to read this book, at least comfortably. Even if you do, I can't imagine it will be much fun, given I could barely see the fine light gray print, and didn't have a lighted magnifier handy. The text was poorly done. Too bad, since I like the artist's work.
There are a million books on acrylic - I was fortunate to choose this one based on just one review . It is a cleardescription emphasizing the use of acrylic underpainting in connection with pastel. I purchased the kindle version withSome trepidation, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the illustrations accompanying the text'.
This book displays exceptionally beautiful paintings while also providing clear explanations of technique along with exercises to do on your own. Visually glorious plus instructional. It doesn't get any better than that!
I love this book , all demos are clearly written and have started to use her techniques which are a lot of fun. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in giving Abstract Art a go and want to know more.
Slightly confusing but she has a class on artist network that demonstrates the procedures she discusses in the book.
Deborah Stewart's book drew me in with its thought provoking prose and its compelling and dramatic artwork. Her technical examples and explanations were spot on. As a painter,myself, this is a book worth keeping, not only referring to from time to time. I congratulate her for writing an innovative, inspiring, and motivational book. Another plus--it's informative!
Really like it! Learning that abstract art is anything but abstract, with careful consideration given to its elements. Gorgeous images and clearly written text.... highly recommend.
